A Moorish king of Silves married Gilda, a princess from the North, who was wasting away from no longer seeing the snow of her homeland. So the king had thousands of almond trees planted around the castle: one January morning, the princess opened her window onto a sea of white blossom — the « snow » of the Algarve. She recovered, and every winter since, the almond blossom tells that to love is to make it snow where it never snows.
Un roi maure de Silves épousa Gilda, princesse venue du Nord, qui dépérissait de ne plus voir la neige de son pays. Alors le roi fit planter des milliers d'amandiers autour du château : un matin de janvier, la princesse ouvrit sa fenêtre sur une mer de fleurs blanches — la « neige » de l'Algarve. Elle guérit, et chaque hiver depuis, les amandiers en fleur racontent qu'aimer, c'est faire neiger là où il ne neige jamais.
